The Shasta Cascade Region of far Northern California is the ideal place for a last minute summer adventure. There are endless possibilities for entertainment and excitement for the whole family. One option is to spend a weekend in and around the quaint town of Weaverville in Trinity County. The Trinity River, one of the six wild & scenic rivers in our region, is just south of Weaverville The river offers a thrilling raft trip or a calm, gentle float with several raft companies offering a wide variety of river experiences for ½ day, full day or multi-day trips.
If you prefer a lake experience, you’ll find Trinity Lake just below the jagged peaks of the Trinity Alps. This lake is a premier destination for water sports enthusiasts – houseboating, swimming, fishing, wake boarding, just to name a few!
Perhaps you’d rather venture out into the Trinity Alps Wilderness where you’ll find numerous trailheads. If you don’t mind a little bit of a challenge and solitude – you can hike into some of the most beautiful high alpine lakes – guaranteed to make you feel like you are on top of the world!
Area attractions in include Joss House Taoist Temple, built in 1874 and now a state park, offering a glimpse into the culture and religion of thousands of Chinese miners. Or maybe you want to know what life was like for American Indians, gold miners and early white settlers of Trinity County at the Jake Jackson Memorial Museum.
And for art lovers, art flourishes in Weaverville with several galleries including Highland Art Center which offers a variety of art shows. There are several cute little shops to browse.
Accommodations abound in the Weaverville area, from public or private campgrounds, to B&B’s, rustic cabins or guest ranches. There are several great restaurants, coffee houses, and even an old fashioned movie Theater. This and so much more are waiting for you in the historic gold rush town of Weaverville!
