Great New Exhibits Coming to Turtle Bay this Summer

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

Two big exhibits are rolling into Redding this summer.
SUE, the largest, most complete and best preserved T.REX ever found, standing 12 feet high, and measuring 42 feet long arrives on May 2. Come and marvel in the wonder of SUE’s gigantic skeleton and immerse yourself in this creative exhibit that includes 10 interactive displays focusing on sight and smell, dinosaur movements, dinosaur trivia and two videos.

A T.REX NAMED SUE runs May 2, 2009 through September 7, 2009 at Turtle Bay Exploration Park and is –$18 for visiting adults and $12 for children and seniors (includes park admission). For Turtle Bay’s members SUE admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children and seniors.

Turtle Bay Exploration Park also welcomes Nathan Sawaya’s eye-popping art exhibition, titled The Art of the Brick to Redding on May 16. This exhibition, which focuses solely on LEGO as an art medium, makes its west coast debut at Turtle Bay. Come see millions of bricks in 27 exceptional pieces of art, including three-dimensional sculptures and oversized mosaic portraits that will surely inspire you to build! As an added bonus, on May 16 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sawaya joins us at Turtle Bay to build a custom piece, answer your questions, show you the tools he uses to create his amazing art out of toy building blocks and sign your brick memorabilia. For those who seek immediate gratification after being inspired by the artist, you can visit Zubie’s Classroom at Turtle Bay and start building your own custom creation. Use the thousands of LEGOs on hand and display your piece of art in the classroom’s demonstration area.

Sawaya has been featured on multiple media outlets including CBS’s The Late Show with David Letterman, NBC’s Today Show, ESPN’s Cold Pizza and ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Additionally, Nathan builds commissioned custom pieces, such as his recent work for Donald Trump’s new hotel in Dubai.

Nathan Sawaya’s The Art of the Brick runs May 16, 2009 through January 3, 2010 at Turtle Bay Exploration Park and is free with park admission–$13 for visiting adults and $9 for children and seniors and, as always, park admission is free for Turtle Bay’s members.
