The Cities of Chico, Oroville, and Paradise are hosting a bonus weekend of artist open studio tours for those who missed out on the event in October. You can purchase a tour guide and admission to all parts of the event for ten dollars. It seems like the cities in Northern California are all about the arts these days, as events like this studio tour are popping up all over the region. Art expresses ideas and concepts in a powerful way; an opportunity to meet the artist while you enjoy the artwork is a great way to add some culture to you weekend. You can purchase your guides at the Chico Art Center, All Fired Up! Ceramic Art Center, and several other locations. Check out www.ChicoArtCenter.com for more information. While you’re in the area you can check out the 4th annual Bidwell Mansion Harvest Festival happening on November 2nd from 11am-3pm. Interact with live animals, play games and make crafts from the 1800s, and enjoy local vendors’ booths and historic pastimes. You can see the first floor of the Bidwell Mansion Museum for free, and enjoy other themed activities for a low cost! This is a good weekend for fun in Butte County.

Fall Colors are at looking great in the Shasta Cascade Region of Northern California right now. Timing of the color change depends a lot on the weather and when things start to cool down. Because of the diversity of elevation and climate throughout the region, and there are colors changing at different rates all over. Plumas County has been nationally recognized for the beauty of its seasonal change. Check out their Bloom Blog for day to day updates. Another great area right now is the back road drive from Adin to Susanville through the Modoc National Forest. Also the Cedar Pass over the Warner Mountains is a fantastic drive right now, with golds, oranges, and reds. Mt. Shasta is also looking spectacular with Mountain Ash, Birch, Oaks, and Maples putting on a show. And as of the end of last week, the foliage in McArthur Burney State Park is at it’s peak! Get some yummy hot drinks and your sweaters and go see the colors!

Anyone who books a stay at a hotel in Redding, CA during the month of October will receive two complementary tickets to Turtle Bay Exploration Park. The tickets do not include the cost of the current Geckos Exhibit, but do allow entry into the museum and gardens, what a gift! Two things in one, free entry, and a great idea of how to spend one of your afternoons in Redding.
