Hike Lassen Peak by Moonlight

Monday, March 16th, 2009

It’s a local tradition to hike to the top of Lassen Peak by the light of a full moon. The peak trail is uncovered the entire length which allows the moonlight to be sufficient for making the trek to the top, and there is snow almost all year round which also reflects the light. The view from the parking lot of the trail head is one of the best, and it only gets better the higher you climb. This hike is of moderate to strenuous difficulty and takes about 4 hours round trip. Lassen Volcanic National Park is located about an hour east of Red Bluff along HWY 36.

Baby Eagles Growing Up for the World to See in Redding

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

Two eagle parents with a nest right off of exit #678 on the I-5 are proud parents this season. Caltrans set up a camera so the public can enjoy watching thier fledgling babies grow up up close. The nest itself is located on the north side of HWY 44 West. If you exit I-5 and stay left towards Eureka, you’ll be able to see it up high in one of the trees on your right.
