A visit to Modoc County California is like stepping back into the Old West. There you’ll find high mountains, vast skies and plains, and a cattle population that outnumbers the people who live in the county. But the old western feeling isn’t only out in the wide open spaces, you’ll also find it in the communities of Surprise Valley when you encounter homes and buildings originally built in the 1880s. Documentation of previous homeowners and significant occurrences in the homes is available for visitors to read, so that the stories of these buildings live on.
With 6 golf courses, the small community of Graeagle draws in a pilgrimage of golfers every year. The golf courses are known for their beautiful wooded settings and spectacular mountain backdrops. Just imagine, it could be possible to loose sight of your golf ball for a brief moment as it flies in front of snow covered Mount Shasta. It’s easy to find a golf course that offers a package including fine dinning and nearby accommodations, making a convenient and enjoyable experience possible.
The Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association hosted the 3rd Annual Regional Tourism Summit last Tuesday, and it was a great success. Professionals from the travel and tourism industry all over the region showed up to hear keynote speaker Berkeley Young and to network with each other.
The Summit stressed the importance of the tourism industry for the overall economy. These statistics were printed in the Redding Record Searchlight, “Tourism in Shasta County in 2007 generated $365.2 million, according to the California Travel and Tourism Commission. Some 4,680 jobs were created by the industry in 2007.”
Vacationers are going to stay closer to home this season, and this region is ready for them!
