PLUMAS

  • Spend a day enjoying the cold crisp air while skiing down the hills at the Lassen National Forest-Stover Mountain along their 8 runs, which are situated on 13 acres.
  • Breathe some fresh air while hiking along the Pacific Crest , but dress warm for snow in the higher elevations!
  • Bring your camera and visit Indian Valley that’s dotted with old barns and offers scenic views of the mountain meadows! 530-284-6633

BUTTE

  • Firewood permits for the Shasta-Trinity Forests are available for $5. per cord with a 4 cord min. at  Shasta Lake Visitors Center.
  • See the new exhibit at  Turtle Bay Museum, The Migrant Project: Contemporary Migratory Farm Workers  Feb. 4-April 10
  • Step back in time as you explore the town of Old Shasta, its historic brick buildings & the Old Courthouse Museum.

TRINITY

  • For a scenic drive take hwy. 3 from Weaverville to Callahan or Etna over beautiful, and curvy, Scott Mt. The Trinity River should be full.
  • The Trinity Alps are some of the most scenic mountain ranges in California and contain 500,000 acres of wilderness area. http://dld.bz/GUTh
  • Did you know the La Grange Hydraulic Gold Mine near Weaverville, processed over 100 million yards of gravel to produce $3,500,000 in gold?

SISKIYOU

  • Take in the splendor of Castle Crags State Park 6 miles south of Dunsmuir on I-5.
  • The town of Mt. Shasta is what you are looking for if you enjoy a small “ski resort town” atmosphere.  It offers unique cafes, galleries & gift shops with beautiful crystals, jewelry and more.
  • Did you know that the town of Doris, on Hwy. 97 near the Oregon border, has the tallest flagpole west of the Mississippi?

LASSEN

  • Visit the Lassen Historical Museum in Susanville. Don’t skip Roop’s Fort behind the museum. T-Th & Sat 10am-1pm
  • The Pioneer Cemetery in Susanville, located at Pine & Court Streets, is a step back into the history of the area.
  • Take the historic Uptown Susanville Mural Tour in Susanville and see the 11 interesting and diverse murals decorating the downtown buildings. For a mural book call Lassen County Arts Council at (530) 257-5222

MODOC

  • Take a scenic drive along the Surprise Valley/Barrel Springs Back Country Byway and walk the beach of a prehistoric lake.http://dld.bz/hZB4
  • Visit the Devils Garden Plateau Wild Horse Territory near Alturas, which contains 300,000 acres of habitat for the roaming wild horses.
  • For great bird viewing opportunities visit the Klamath Basin Birding Trail for a chance to see over 350 bird species. http://dld.bz/dKPa

PLUMAS

  • Check out the Bucks Lake Poker Run on Feb. 5th in Plumas County. For info.  call (530) 283-0667
  • Fish for trophy trout at Butt Valley Reservoir in the Chester/Almanor area
  • Learn about the Clampers at the Frank C. Reilly Museum in LaPorte.

BUTTE

  • Hike the 9 mile Feather River Falls loop near Oroville on Lumpkin Rd. Feather Falls is the 6th largest waterfall in the country.
  • Visit the exotic Kirshner Wildlife Foundation in Durham, just minutes south of Chico. It is home to a variety of endangered and exotic wild animals.  Open daily 9am-5pm by appointment.  Call 345-1700  www.kirshner.org/main/index.php
  • Stop into the Butte County Pioneer Memorial Museum, where you can view numerous historic treasures including a doll from the Donner Party.
