April 24th – April 30th

SHASTA

TRINITY

  • Stop to see the Natural Bridge in Hayfork. It is historically interesting and an unusual natural phenomenon with strong links to the Native Americans that once inhabited the area. The bridge is a limestone arch across a narrow ravine by nature.
  • Take an adventure along the Trinity Heritage Scenic Byway and get a chance to view mountain lakes, gold rush history, and the Pacific Crest Trail.
  • Visit the Whitmore Inn and experience the elegant Victorian home in the heart of the Historic District of Weaverville.

SISKIYOU

  • Stroll through the historic town of Dunsmuir and be sure to stop into Dunsmuir Hardware, which dates back to 1894.
  • If you love adventure then visit the Pluto Caves, once visited by John Muir, who in 1888 wrote about these caves in “Steep Trails”.

LASSEN

  • If you are interested in seeing thousands of migrating waterfowl, then visit the Honey Lake Wildlife Area for great viewing opportunities.
  • You can experience a number of recreational opportunities at the Susanville Ranch Park, which has 22 miles of trails.
  • Come enjoy the beauty of Eagle Lake, famous for its Eagle Lake rainbow trout and is California’s second largest natural freshwater lake.

MODOC

  • Visit Goose Lake and come see why an emigrant group once mistook this lake as being the Pacific Ocean.
  • Have you ever seen petrified wood? Come explore Modoc County, which has a number of locations, where you can find petrified wood.
  • Want a chance to see Rocky Mountain mule deer? Then visit the Modoc National Forest, which is also home to over 300 other wildlife species.

PLUMAS

  • It’s trout season again! Try your luck at Lake Almanor! For weekly updates visit www.shastacascade.com
  • For the locomotive enthusiast explore the Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Portola.
  • Get a close look at mining relics and a restored stamp mill at Plumas Eureka State Park & Museum in Johnsville.

BUTTE

  • If you like love stories,  take the tour of the C.F. Lott Home in Sand Park on Sun., Mon., & Fri. 11:30-3:30.  538-2497 or 538-2415.
  • Set aside April 29-May 8 to join in the fun of the annual Fiesta Days in Oroville.  You won’t want to miss this!

TEHAMA

April 16th – April 23rd

SHASTA

  • This is your chance to reserve a spot for a guided Whiskeytown Falls tour, April 16-May 7th. Call 246-1225 for reservations.
  • Ready for an adventure? Take a day and go hiking at Castle Crags State Park. The views from the top are inspiring!

TRINITY

  • Enjoy the spectacular scenery on Hwy 3 from Hayfork to Yreka. This is the right place for motorcycling to be sure. 
  • Now that the weather is warming up, treat yourself to ride in the country with wine tasting at Alpen Cellars in Trinity Co.
  • The Trinity Alps are some of the most scenic mountain ranges in California and contain 500,000 acres of wilderness area.

SISKIYOU

  • Not ready to give up the snow yet? The Fun Factory is still open! Head up for snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and so much more! 530 926-5387
  • If you like extreme, then how about some end of the season winter camping at Lassen Volcanic Nat’l Park!
  • The golf course at the Mount Shasta Resort is now open, so invite some friends and enjoy off-peak season rates!

LASSEN

  • The Susanville Railroad Depot serves as the place to start a leisurely hike or bike ride up the Susan River.
  • There’s still time to play in the snow! Head up towards Lassen Volcanic National Park and you’re bound to find some!
  • Visit the Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park and discover one of the largest systems of fresh water springs in the US!

MODOC

  • Horseback riding is permitted at the Dorris Reservoir from April 1st-Sept. 30th on the equestrian trail across from the dam.
  • The Lava Beds National Monument is an adventure for all ages. Explore caves, rock carvings, and so much more!

PLUMAS

  • Layer on the clothing and bike along the shoreline on the Lake Almanor Recreation Trail; the scenery is beautiful.

  • It’s the season when the Feather River Scenic Byway looks absolutely gorgeous. Drive along the river and view all the wildlife and spring wildflowers with unlimited colors!

BUTTE

  • If you’re a quilter, you might find  “Quilt Rush 2011”  to be an opportunity for fun, viewing  and mingling.
  • Love egg hunts?  Join in the fun of the Spring Jamboree Egg Hunt at Camper Acres in Bidwell Park on April 23rd.  895-4711
  • For something unique to do, join in some of the events during the Paradise Golden Nugget Days April. 23 – May 1st.

TEHAMA

SHASTA

  • Did you know that Burney Falls has 100 million gallons of water flowing over it everyday?! Go see it for yourself and hike along the trails.

TRINITY

  • Did you know that the South Fork Mountain in Trinity County is the longest continuous ridge in the Western Hemisphere?
  • Spend an afternoon walking around the historical town of Lewiston and enjoy the history behind many building dating back to the 1850′s.
  • Visit the Forest Service Station in Weaverville to check out fossilized dinosaur bones, found near the Trinity Dam in 1964.

SISKIYOU

  • In Yreka, visit the fascinating  “POP Culture Exhibit” April 1-May 7 at the Liberty Arts Center 108 Miner St. 530 842-0222
  • Visit the Siskiyou County Courthouse to view different forms of gold found in the area along with the largest gold display south of Alaska.
  • Are you in search of wild trout fishing locations? The Upper Sacramento, McCloud, Klamath, and Scott River offer prime fishing locations.

LASSEN

  • Eagle Lake, 15 miles north of Susanville, is  the 2nd largest natural lake in California with 100 mi. of gorgeous shoreline.
  • Located near the Lassen Historical Museum is Roop’s Fort, a place where visitors can step into the past and see just how the early settlers lived.
  • Visit the self proclaimed birthplace of Paul Bunyan, the city of Westwood.

MODOC

  • Located in Cedarville, the Cressler-Bonner Trading Post was Modoc’s first trading post built in 1865 and is still standing
  • Visit the Modoc County Museum and gain a better understanding of this area and its history.
  • Don’t miss the birds! This is a prime time to view many species at the Modoc National Wildlife Refuge near Alturas.

PLUMAS

  • Take a fishing trip to Lake Davis, known for its trophy trout fishing.
  • Want to find some cache? Bring your hand-held GPS device and visit Plumas County, which has an abundance of geocaching locations.
  • Explore the great outdoors and breathe some fresh air while exploring the Plumas National Forest.

BUTTE

TRINITY

  • The Big Valley Museum offers endless information and displays of the early settlements of northeastern California.

MODOC

  • Interested in birdwatching? Plan a whimsical day at Klamath Basin and enjoy the Birding Trail.
  • Grab a pair of snow shoes and get ready for an adventure to Patterson Lake, which is a pristine, emerald green lake.
  • Visit Modoc County Historical Museum in Alturas, which features artifacts dating back 150 years!

PLUMAS

  • Breathe some fresh air while hiking along the Pacific Crest but dress warmly for snow in the higher elevations.
  • Go sledding for an afternoon and then take a drive through the historic town of Greenville.
  • Enjoy a drive through the Sierra Valley and see how many bird species you can count long the way.

BUTTE
