24 Things To Do This Week In The Shasta Cascade Region

October 30th – November 5th

SHASTA

  • Make sure to visit one of the local pumpkin patches before they close for the season!
  • Begin scouting out that perfect  Christmas Tree because the California Welcome Center in Anderson will start selling permits November 1st!
  • Step back into history and explore the quaint historic town of French Gulch off of Hwy 299.

TRINITY

  • Discover Trinity Center’s 19th century ranch era, along with artifacts and various photographs by visiting the Scotts Museum in Weaverville.
  • Visit the Forest Service Station in Weaverville to check out fossilized dinosaur bones found near the Trinity Dam in 1964.
  • Did you know that the South Fork Mountain in Trinity County is the longest continuous ridge in the Western Hemisphere? Check it out and see yourself!

SISKIYOU

  • Feel the need to competitively fish? Participate in the Dunsmuir Fishing Competition. Biggest catch every week wins a prize!
  • This Saturday is the last of the season to enjoy a Fern Cave tour and witness the beauty of this green oasis! For a reservation please call Lava Beds National Monument to book your tour: 530-667-8113.
  • If you’re up for a little adventure, then bring a flashlight and explore the Oak Hollow Creek Cave near Happy Camp.

LASSEN

  • Lassen County is rich in fall color hunting opportunities. Call the Lassen County Chamber for more details.  530-257-4323
  • Goodrich Creek, 17 mi. west of Susanville, is home to abundant wildlife, beautiful scenery & superb catch & release angling.
  • Those with adventurous hearts can explore the Nobles Immigrant National Historic Trail or Buckhorn Back-Country Byway from the comfort of their car!

MODOC

  • Enjoy Louieville, a real-life setting of authentic log cabins and old structures at the Modoc District. Fairgrounds.
  • Dust off the old mountain bike and head to Devil’s Garden Mountain Bike Area to bike 3 miles of steep pavement and 2.3 miles of flat dirt roads appealing to beginners and advanced riders alike.
  • Visit the Tule Lake War Relocation Center National Monument and learn about the history of the internment camp, located in Newell.

PLUMAS

  • Pick up an auto-tour brochure in Quincy and drive along the Worldmaker’s Trail, a 67 mile trail that highlights 15 different locations along the route.
  • Take a self-guided tour through the historic town of Greenville, where you can find a number of historical buildings.
  • Grab a camera and capture the beauty of Lake Almanor in its fall transition!

BUTTE

  • Make sure to catch the last week of Chico’s Artoberfest, a true feast for the eyes, and the stomach!
  • In your travels check out Paradise, in the foothills east of Chico, known for its antique shops and gold rush history.
  • While visiting or driving through Oroville, try out the cell phone tours. You’ll have your own tour guide to local attractions in the palm of your hand!

TEHEMA

  • Get outside and enjoy a beautiful view of the Sacramento River, while walking along one of the trails that can be found at the Woodson Bridge State Recreation Area.
  • Take a drive along Historic Route 99. This route began as a horse and stagecoach trail extending from Mexico to Canada!
  • Visit the Corning Museum on Solano St. to see artifacts representing the cultural heritage of the area.

SHASTA

  • Ready to pig out? Attend Cottonwood Community Center for some food and festivities this Saturday.
  • Visit the McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial SP to enjoy fall colors, along the beautiful Burney Creek!
  • Explore the Samwel or “Grizzly Bear Cave” that was known to the Wintu Indians as a place where you could gain strength.

TRINITY

  • There’s a lot to do in Weaverville, visit one of the oldest Chinese temples in California.
  • It’s perfect weather for a road trip. Take the Trinity Heritage Scenic Byway and find out where you want to camp next.
  • Early fall is the perfect time to explore the many lakes, creeks, and hiking opportunities throughout Trinity County.  The possibilities are endless.

SISKIYOU

  • Visit Pluto’s Cave, near Mt. Shasta that was once visited by John Muir, who wrote about the cave in “Steep Trails” back in 1888!
  • View the largest concentration of Bald Eagles in the lower 48 states by visiting the Klamath Wildlife Refuges!
  • Need a walk? Attend Yreka Art Walk this Friday while checking out the downtown.

LASSEN

  • Take a break from it all to enjoy nature while hiking along the Spencer Meadow Trailhead, a National Recreation Trail!
  • Want the perfect opportunity to view spectacular fall colors? Attend Lassen Nat’l Forest.
  • Take a hike, horseback ride or bike ride along the 25 mile Bizz Johnson Trail. It is one of the best “rails to trails” conversions in California.

MODOC

  • Visit the Tule Lake War Relocation Center National Monument and learn about the history of the internment camp located in Newell.
  • Experience one of North America’s most unique geological areas by visiting the Medicine Lake Highlands!
  • For those who long for a quiet, calm retreat from the busyness of the crowds, Modoc County is a tempting Garden of Eden.

PLUMAS

  • Don’t miss your chance to be a part of the Run-A-Locomotive Program in Portola! Ending day is Nov. 14th.
  • Explore the 7 wonders of the railroad world beginning 6 miles west of Quincy. See their Chamber of Commerce for a map.
  • There are 61 locations to view along the Quincy Heritage Walk.  The buildings you see represent important historical architecture.

BUTTE

  • Pick your own pumpkins at the Patrick Ranch Museum Event. Times are 10AM-5PM. (530)-342-4359.
  • Visit one of few covered bridges in CA, the Honey Run Covered Bridge in Chico, the only 3-level covered bridge in the US.
  • Take a Sunday drive and catch the autumn color change on the Feather River Scenic Byway, Hwy 70!

Tehama

  • Check out the 6th Annual Make A Difference Lobster Fest at the Tehama District Fair Grounds this Saturday.
  • Golf Sevillano Links-A John Daly Signature Course 7,000 yards, rated #30 in the nation. Perfect for golfers of all levels!
  • Mmmm! Olive oils, balsamic vinegars, and dips…who could ask for anything more!? Check out Lucero Olive Oil Company!
